What to Do with 2 Days in New Orleans!

When we decided to spend this year’s Mother’s Day in New Orleans, I knew it was going to be a blast. New Orleans is a vibrant city full of history, culture, and delicious food. If you only have two days to explore this unique destination, here are some must-see attractions and experiences to make the most of your time.

I want to say in advance that all the planning was spearheaded by my Taurus of a sister, and she designed a fabulous list of outings.

Day 1:

The way the flights landed, we picked up my sister and immediately headed to BBQ at Blue Oak BBQ. The brisket shrimp sandwich is a must! What’s a vacation if not filled with amazing eats?

Next up, was the New Orleans Museum of Art. A must-visit destination for art lovers. With a vast collection of over 40,000 objects spanning centuries and continents, this museum offers a diverse and enriching experience for visitors. From ancient art to contemporary works, there's something for everyone to enjoy. There’s even an outdoor sculpture garden.

Day 1 Continued:

If you’re one for a party in the streets, head down to Bourbon Street. Bourbon Street in New Orleans is a vibrant and iconic destination that offers a unique nightlife experience. From live music to delicious food and drinks, there's always something exciting happening on this historic street. Whether you're looking to dance the night away or simply soak up the atmosphere, Bourbon Street is a favorite destination for anyone exploring the Big Easy. We caught a live jazz and burlesque show hosted by the Trixie Minx. Word of advice though, be sure to pace yourself - the party never stops on Bourbon Street!

Day 2:

Start your day off with a doughnut from Blue Dot Donut, but get there early because he sells out quickly! I was a fan of the classic pink frosted with sprinkles.

After breakfast, take a stroll through the French Quarter. This historic neighborhood is filled with charming architecture, street performers, and local shops. Be sure to stop by Jackson Square, a public park surrounded by historic buildings and street artists.

For lunch, head to Banh Mi Sandwiches to enjoy some Vietnamese inspired cuisine. Hands down, get the Bang Bang Shrimp.

Get your shop on in the vintage shops in the garden district:

  • Funky Monkey

  • La Belle Nouvelle Orleans

  • The Good Shop

  • Trashy Diva - lingerie and dress shops

  • Miette

  • Century Girl Vintage

Be sure to wander through The Great Alligator Museum as well! They even have a live gator!

End your day with dinner at Kingfish. This iconic restaurant is known for serving up new-school twists on traditional New Orleans cuisine. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and family for a drink in the French Quarter.

New Orleans is a city full of history, culture, and delicious food. With just two days, you can experience some of the city's most iconic attractions and cuisine. So pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable trip to the Big Easy!
